How Do You Know When The Romance Is Gone?

When we were first married, my husband would sometimes bring home a lunchbox full of wildflowers after he spent the day fixing fence.

It was a sweet gesture. In our marriage, we don't often exchange material evidence of our affection for one another. We tend to be frugal as well as practical, and the nearest flower shop is 50 miles away.

I'm not so certain that today's gift was a token of affection, though. It left me wondering. . . how do you know when the romance has vacated your marriage?

Could it be when the flowers are replaced by toads?

This little princess thought she had found her Prince Charming.

Don't worry. I didn't let her kiss it. She is only 7, after all.

My husband has replaced roses for box turtles he saves on the road...
The romance isn't gone, love is just deep enough for me to except the turtle and smile.

Mine will bring me the rattles off a rattlesnake he just killed. Then again, I was never a sucker for flowers.

How very sweet!! You know it's gone if he brings you frogs because he knows that your deathly afraid of them. It looks like he may be bringing that for your girl though, because she looks like she loves frogs!!

My husband sent me flowers once, and they almost killed my principal (I was teaching high school, then). My principal is highly allergic to lilies, and that's what Hal sent me (very sweet, as stargazers are my favorite) -- but after hearing I had to RUN with them to my car to avoid killing the principal, I'm not sure Hal will send me some ever again. :)

Lovely! I'm not a big fan of toads...that whole warty thing just doesn't do it for me.
