Welcome to the "John's World" readers

I was quite surprised this morning to find that my blog hit counter was uncharacteristically active. It appeared that there were actually people reading my blog who were in no way related to me. After a bit of investigating, I discovered the source of the traffic.

For the past few years, I have enjoyed a farm life column in Farm Journal magazine written by John Phipps, who also hosts the U.S. Farm Report on television. Mr. Phipps' wry humor and his ability to say it like he sees it have earned my admiration. That's why I began visiting his blog recently, and yesterday I made a comment on a piece about the battle between editors and writers. (I happen to have some familiarity with that topic.)

Mr. Phipps was kind enough to visit my blog and recommend that others do the same.

I appreciate his kind words, and as a new blogger, I continue to marvel at the manner in which blogs can reach people and bridge the gaps between location, age, economic status, and degree of celebrity. In the farming community, I have a degree of celebrity that ranks somewhere near 2 next to Mr. Phipps' 2 million. But here, we're just a couple of bloggers who have the best interests of agriculture in mind.

While my recommendation of his blog will not even cause a blip on his stats counter, I encourage you to visit John's World. It's a view of agriculture and the Internet that you will not likely encounter elsewhere.

Besides, he's a pretty funny guy.
